The Secret Of Mana Walkthrough
Chapter 1:The Rusty Sword
It is a clear sunny day. You, and two of your friends are seaching for treasure on a slippery log. Like the idiot you are, you slip and fall down the waterfall. Don’t worry, this part in unavoidabale, as this is an automatic scene. Finally you take control of the game.
You fall down the waterfall, into a small lake. If you move down a bit, you’ll see a sword sticking out of a log. Go down the stream, to the right side of where you landed. You find a path back to town but what’s this? There are bushes in your path. Fear not, however, the sword you saw earlier is sharp enough to turn those bushes into mincemeat. Follow the path up, and to the left, until you reach the sword, and pull it out. A ghost will greet you, who turns out to be your father (damn, I just ruined the ending), but don’t worry, he doesn’t contribute to the plotline at all. Just grab the sword, go back to the bushes and hack and slash, clearing a path, and go through. You’ll see a rubite, the first monster of the game. Easy to kill, two full hits with your sword will finish him off. But wait, the path is filled with them. Simply follow the path, killing rubites along the way. Following the path to the end will take you to the town of Potos, but it might be a good idea to keep killing rubits until you reach level 3 or 4 and your sword is level 1. Finally enter Potos.
Talk to the villagers. Everyone says that the village is being attacked by monsters, and there is little they can do. Go to the item shop and buy and equip a bandana. Then talk to the village elder in front of the house to the upper right. Turns out the sword you pulled out is the mana sword (bomus points for you) BUT, sadly, it is the reason for the monster attacks on the village. You get slapped around by your friend (a very stupid friend, seeing as you have the mana sword), but before you can kill him, an earthquake shakes, and you fall down a pit to face your first boss, the Mantis Ant.
Easy, easy fight. If you die, a strage old man will ressurect you. Strangly enough, the strange old man just happins to be the grim reaper, but anyway. You should be able to win, even without his help. The secret is to run away, charge up your weapon to level 1, run in and attack. Run away and repeat. He’ll jump around some, fire a few spells and sometimes make you fall asleep, but he isn’t too hard. When you kill him, you get a sword orb (what does it do?), and the strage guy who was standing at the café will pull you up. He tells you about your sword, and that you must re-energize it. He says his name is Jema, and he’s going to meet you at the water palace, where you’ll also meet Sage Luka.
Meanwhile, the other villagers aren’t very happy that you pulled out the sword and released all evil, so they banish you from the village. You get to take the contents of a cheat (I think the chest has either 50 or 100 dollars in it), and your forced to leave. You can never get back. Your next goal is to the water palace. You can either take the cannon travel center, to the right to potos village (it’s free, don’t worry) or you can walk. I walked, so I could get exp from the monsters, and I found Neko’s shop. Everything is outragiously expensive, BUT you have to come here from time to time, so remember where it is. When you get to the palace, talk to the soldiers standing there. You find out their commands name is Dyluck, and they’re going to fight the witch. Ignore them for now, but remember their commander, as he becomes relivent later. Enter the water palace, above you.
Chapter 2: The Water Palace
You meet Jema, he takes you to Luka, the keeper of the Water Palace. You talk to her for a while. You learn about the empire, the mana fortress, gaia’s naval and pandora, all of which you should care about later. For now, seal the seed, and she’ll give you a spear. It’s better then the sword, you should equip it, and use it as your weapon throughout the game. Jema runs off to Pandora, and you get sent to Gaia’a naval, where the dwarves live, who know a lot about weapons, who, hopefully, know something about that sword which caused all this trouble in the first place. Leave the palace, and travel towards Pandora. Along the way you get attacked by goblins, and taken to their goblin village. I would like to know where it is, you can’t come back to it. Anyway, they say they’re going to eat you, but a blond chick comes and saves you, then runs off, without telling her name. Continue on to Gaia’s Naivel.
Chapter 3: Gaia’s Naivel
This is the first dungeon. At the base of the waterfall which makes up gaia’s naivel, there are two caves. The left one is your destibation, the right one has Nico, the shop keeper, who has items for sale at roughly double the price they’re worth, and he can save your game. Save, and go into the left cave.
Kid-goblins are fun to kill. And they make the most delightful smacking sound when you hit them, it sounds like a real strong hit. Blats, which are the bats, are easy as well, but they have the annoying habit of ballooning you, so you can’t move. Green drops are tougher, as they multiply when you kill them, BUT they are worth good experience, especially when you kill many clones. Just be careful, as they can poison you, which isn’t a good specticle. The cave isn’t long or hard, so I won’t go into great detail. Go from room to room, killing goblins and green drops to gain exp. Explore all rooms, and hit the skull switch with your weapon to do something. Along the way you’ll also come across the magic rope, which is guarded by two goblins. Grab that as well. At this point in the game this is a great spot to gain levels, come back here once you get your allies. Wander around until you reach the dwarf village.
Talk to the dwarves. In this village you have two objectives. Find the blacksmith, Watts, in the upper right, who is able to re-forge your sword to make it stronger at the exchange of an energy orb. It just happens that you have an energy orb from killing the Mantis ant earlier, so have him reforge your rusty sword into a stronger one. He then says he’ll make an axe, remember that. Save your game (important), then go to the elders house. It is a carnival. Pay 50g to get in and watch a bad exhibit. Finally you see a sprite who says he has a 100 000g debt to pay off. Donate 100g to it’s cause, and exit the show. Go to the room to the right of the show room, and you’ll see the sprite and the elder talking about how they scammed you (those bastards). They feel guilty amd give you your money back (idiots). Exit the exhibit hut, and you’ll be attacked by a boss.
The boss is a plant. An evil plant who spits fireballs and vines at you (like my mothers roses). People think I’m strange because this boss almost always kills me. I guess I’m just weak. Well, wail on it with your sword until it dies, but beware of the fireballs it spits out, as they do deal a good amount of damage. Kill it, .and it dies.
After the fight the village elder talks to you and asks if you’ll take the sprite that previously scammed you along with you. You have no choice but to say yes, and now you have a new ally. You name him (I’ll refer to him as sprite), and you’ll also get two new weapons with him, the boomerang and the bow and arrow set. It’s a good idea to equip sprite with either the bow or boomerang, as he is increadable weak, and having a ranged attack is better to keep him out of harms way. Next go find watts, who made an axe for you. Buy it for a hundred bucks, and he’ll show you a shortcut to gaia’s naivel from the village. Exit the cave and head to Pandora.
Chapter 4: Pandora
Just follow the signs to get to Pandora, I won’t go into detail about the directions. You’ll know your there because of the music change.
This town is strange, some of the villagers are silent and weird. You can’t do anything for them, yet, so ignore them. Instead head into the castle and walk through the halls. In one of them the girl who previouly saved you from the goblins will come charging out of one of the doors. She sees your sword, decides you’re a swordsman (duh) and joins your party under the assumption that your going to the haunted forest to rescure her boyfriend Dyluck (the leader of the guards outside of the Water Palace) because the witch (her name is Elinee) has captured him. So guess where your going.
Chapter 5:The Witch, Elinee
Head back to Gaia’s Naivel, but don’t go into the cave. You can go into the cave, but then the girl will leave your party, and you don’t want that. Instead, take the path north from Gaia’s Naivel, to a teleporter to the haunted forest. It’s pretty long, but the path is pretty obvious. Neko will be right at the beginning, so talk to him and save. Go right, then downstairs. Kill the eye-spy, then step on the teleporter. Ge back and you’ll find two skull type statues bloking your bath. No fear, your axe will make short work of them. The rest of the way is simple. Until you get to the castle…..
This catle is damned hard. Make sure you have good armor and are at a good level, and be damned careful. The warewolves have tonnes of exp attached, but they will grind you up and spit you out if they attack you. You eventually get to a prison where Elinee keeps her prisoners. Sadly Dyluck isn’t with them, so you have to find the witch herself. Here you’ll also find Neko. Buy anything that heals or restores life, you’ll need it. From one of the captued guards you fine out you can activate a bride by having your whole party stand on a switch at the same time. Go to thet swith and do so and a bridge will form (like you expected anything else to happen). Follow it to reach Elinee.
She doesn’t like you very much, and she shows it. she tells you she gave Dyluck to Thanatos, but you don’t know who that is, so ignore him for now. Then she feeds you to her "pet", a spiky tiger.
You’d better be pretty damned powerful to kill this guy. At all times, try to keep everyone alive, if not, then just two characters. When Spiky jumps on a platform, use a bow or boomerang to hit him. When he breaths fire, switch characters, and use a medical herb to heal him/her. When he’s on the ground is the only time you can hit him with your best weapons, but beware, as he can hit for buttloads of damage by spinning, plus he can make your characters fall asleep. Finally with pure, raw power (and a little luck) you win, and confront Elinee.
Well it turns out that while you were fighting, she repented all her sins, and promises to live her life as a normal little old lady. Go figure. And I was looking foreward to killing her, too. But it’s too late, as Dyluck has already been sent to the ruins south of Pandora. She gives you a whip, and you leave.
Once outside Luka calls you telepathically to return to the Water Palace. Use the whip to take a shortcut on the right side of the forest, or take the long way around.
The Elementel: Undine
Luka tells you her best friend, the Water Elemental, Undine’s, power is failing. She asks you to got to her cave and help her. Exit the palace and go right form the lake which makes up the entrance. You can kill a fw creatures here. Enter the cave behind the waterfall. If you tried to enter the cave earlier in the game, you were told your not able to. Anyway, this cave is really short. There’s a few fishies you can kill, then a really easy dinosaur boss. Try to stay at an angle from him so he can’t swallow you. And hack at him with your charged up weapon, whichever that is. You kill him and Undine shows herself, and gives your allies the power of water. No magic for you, your too powerful as it is. The only spells worth mentioning are freeze, which the sprite uses, and cure water, which the girl uses. It’s a good idea to build the girls magic power up to level two, so hr cure water is more powerful. Now you have a way to cure without items. Now that you have magic, you are invinsible, the game gets real easy at this point. Go to Neko’s, and shell out about 4000g for 4 fairie walnuts. Trust me, you’ll want them. If you don’t have the cash, then just buy as many as you can and make due. Head back to Gaia’s Naivel.
Chapter 6:The Underground Palace
Go back to the lair of the dwarves. Use the shortcut that Watt’s showed you, don’t waste time fighting the creatures of the cave. Talk to Watts, and have him re-forge any orbs you’ve gotten since the last time. Always come back to him each time you get an orb, I’m not going to tell you to. On the bottom floor of the dwarf village, you may have noticed a cave. Enter that cave now. You can’t get past on acont of the lava, but there is a crystal switch you can activate. Activate it by casting Undine’s freeze on it, and the lava will melt away. Continue on to the underground palace.
This place is rather hard. The Ma goblins not only will attack you viciously, but her little kids will to. On the other hand, it is a great way to gain exp. Just remember to use cure water if your hp gets too low. Also, don’t be afraid to run away, or run through the monsters, ignoring them, although you won’t gain exp this way, you won’t lose hp. Fight or run like a little chicken to the stage room. You’ll meet an annoying creature called a Gnome, who won’t let you in. Sprite has a little fight over this……until the fire gigas attacks. You get to fight it.
Easy, easy fight. You can win just about all fights at this point very cheaply and effectivly. Simply switch control to the Sprite, and use Undine’s freeze over, and over, and over until he’s dead. Don’t waste time taking him out with your weapon. When you run out of MP, use a walnut, and continue. Use cure water when you need to, but you shouldn’t, he’ll bairly fight back. Just make sure not to hit him with spells while he’s teleporting, as this will make the spell useless.
After killing that pathetic creature, talk to the Gnome. He’ll give you his powers. Another elemental to toy with. The girl won’t use his magic at all, but the sprite should raise his level to around 2 or 3 before the next battle. Seal the underground seed, and head for the Pandora’s ruins.
Chapter 7:The ruins of Pandora
It might be nice to know that according to mythology, Pandora’s box was the source of all evil in the world. Well, wanyway, stop at Neko’s to restore your fairie Walnut supply, and head to the town. This is the town where everybodies weird. Well, now you get to do something about that. Head south in the town, toward the ruins. Along the way you meet a blue-haired girl, named Phanna, who happenes to be the best friend of Girl. She laughs at you, and dissappears, but you suspect she has gone to the ruins. Go there, and Girl will get you past the guards. Enter the ruins.
The ruins aren’t that hard, but beware, as many of the enemies can poisin you. Just follow the path, it’s not complicated, until you reach the stage room, and Thantos. You chat for a bit, and then he sends you to fight an evil wall!
I laugh at the simplicity of this fight. Cast Gnome’s earth slide on it about two or three times on the crystal in the middle of it’s forehead, ignoring it’s eyes. It dies. Try to kill it before it even attacks you, it is possible. After the battle, Thantos makes a hasty retreat, but he takes Phanna and Dyluck with him (the bastard). But you’ve saved the town (yippie) although that makes no difference (awww). Talk to Jema, then talk to the king of Pandora in the castle. He’ll give you some orbs and some money, can’t have too much of that. Then your told to go back to the water palace, AGAIN.
Chapter 8:The Scorpion Army
You go back to the Water Palace, only to find that the water seeds been stolen! (Luka is such a good guard). But she thinks that it’s been taken to Gaia’s Naivel, and she’s raly wrong, so head there. In the dwarf village, you see a new hole. Enter that hole, that’s where the thieves are at. Talk to Jema before you descend.
You find yourself in a ship of some sort. In it you find some people who call themselves the scorpion, who have stolen the seed to power their (evil) robot, KilRoy (who the heck is roy?) You can use earth slide for descent damage, but this is one of the few fights where physical attacks are better, damage-wise. Beware it’s hammers, it can moogle you or make you really small, a healing herb will fix that. Use a bow, boomerang or the whip to make short work of that robot. Grab the seed, and head back to the water palace..
Chapter 9:The Empire
Stop at Neko’s to get a few more fairie Walnuts, you’ll need them for the next fight.
You enter the palace, and realize something is wrong. It’s swarming with monsters. Don’t skip too many of them, they are worth good exp. Inside you’ll meet Gestar, from the empire. He has taken Luka prisoner, and wants to exchange her for the seed. You get to choose whiether to hand it over, but both choices lead to you fighting a boss, a Jaberwockey.
His attacks are mean, so use cure water when you need it. Cast earth slide on him until he dies, you can also try a few physical attacks if you want to, or if your sprite runs out of mp. It’s not too hard. Once you win, the empire retreats, and the seed is on the stage. You have to re-seal it with your sword. Talk to Jema and Luka, they will tell you to go to the upper land. The cannon travel center near Potos will take you there. Save your game, and go.
Chapter 9:The UpperLand
You land in a forest, and Sprite loses her memory. She can’t tell you how to get to the sprite village, which is why you came her in the first place. So you have to explore. You landed in a moogle village. Talk to one of them and find out that pebblers have taken over their village. So go reclaim their village. The upperland consists of four areas which represents the seasons. There’s Winter, where the moogles are, Spring, south of winter, Summer, to the right of spring, and Fall, to the north of summer and east of winter. First go to spring. Here you’ll find Neko who can sell you new armor and save you game. Do both. The enemies here are harder, but they’re worth tonnes of exp, so fight a whole lot of them. Go to summer, and enter the moogle village which is the top left of the screen. There are three pebblers inside. This is a boss fight, do NOT underestimate the pebblers. They aren’t that hard, but don’t hesitate to use magic on them. Kill all three of them, and try to exit, and all the moogles will re-appear. Find the weapon orbs that are there, and talk to Watts, who happens to be taking a vacation there. Don’t be suprized, Watts follows you everywhere so you never have to go back to Gaia’s Naivel. Re-forge your weapons and talk to and buy whatever you need from Neko. Save your game and talk to one of the moogles. He tells you to "walk the seasons from spring to winter to spring again". I have no idea why people find this hard! It’s quite obvious. Go to spring and simply walk through summer, through fall, through winter and back to spring. Don’t turn back, or you’ll have to start over. When you get back to spring, the gate to the sprite village will open. Enter it (duh). You find it has been abandoned, but there is a boss waiting for you. It’s a giant bird. It can, and will balloon you, se be careful. Otherwise just cast earth slide on it until it dies. Follow the path to the wind palace.
Sprite finds his grand father. The grandfather tells sprite that all the villagers have been killed except him, but he lost his vision. So he can’t help you, instead he gives you Sylphid powers, another type of magic. He can restore hp, and save you game. Do both. Head back to spring.
Chapter 10: Matango
From spring you can go to the lower left, to a crystal switch. Use air-blast spell to get rid of it. Welcome to the "real" upper land. It’s very large, and the enemies are rather hard. But the path is fairly obvious.
Hack and slash your way until you get to a cave in the side of a stone wall. Use your axe to get through, and you can get to the town on the other side. Welcome to Matango, the mushroom city.
They look like enemies, but these mushrooms are nice, so you can talk to them. Go to the palace. To the right of the palace is the item shop where you can re-equip your party. IN thepalace you’ll find watts, who can re-forge your weapons. Then go talk to the king. He tells you a prophecy about a white dragon to the east. He talls you you must find this white dragon, and he gives you a new weapon orb. Save your game, and head out the exit to the right of the castle on the first floor.
Chapter 11: The White Dragon
Before you enter the cave, you must pass through a large room with crabs and other monsters. You should build up your Sylphid magic to level 3-4 before you enter the cave.
The cave is filled with pebblers, Kimono birds who can summon pebblers, and Nemesis owls, who have the annoying habit of casting silence, which reverces the control pad. They are all weak against gnome, so that’ll be useful. Follow the path and cross the gap with your whip when you get there and go down the stairs. Find another gap and cross it, and go downstairs again. Fight your way to the left. You’ll find yourself in a large room with monsters, and a stone block, blocking your path. So go back upstairs and find the crystal switch. Earth slide will trigger it. Go back to the stone block, and it’ll be gone. Wander deeper into the cave until you find the great viper. Kill it using Sylphid’s magic, he’s so easy, I won’t even give you any more stragity then that. Now you find the white dragon, who’s parents were killed, fighting that viper which you just killed (must’ve been weak parents).
Truffle voulinteers to take care of the white dragon. I’ve had many debates about wether or not the dragon is a guy or a girl, and the name that is given to it, Flammie, doesn’t help. He also tells you that the cannon travel center in the great forest is re-opened.
Chapter 12: The Imperial Sand Ship
The cannon travel is kind of hard to find. The part of the forest where the cave is, it’s on the right side. Now you can go to Kakkara. But……
You end up in the middle of the desert. This is basis for a lawsuit, but first it’s a good idea to find water. There are no real directions where you can go, just wander around until you come across a ship. You enter the ship. The guards at the door think your spies and they end up enslaving you to work in the engine rooms. Talk to Sergo the pirate, and he will tell you to talk to the guards.. While you talk to them, he yells "fire", and the guards run over to see "the fire", as you escape through the doors where they were guarding. Go off in search of your two companions, who you were seperated from. You find Sprite, in the kitchen, where he has eaten all the food, and they beg you to take him. So you do. Next, see the helmsman who can save your game. Now search for the girl. There is a semi-hidden door at the bottom part of the ship where she is being held. Turns out she’s going to be a concubine for the leader of the ship. But you rescue her, just as the empire attacks the ship.
They don’t like you very much, and they show it by attacking you with a mech rider. It’s easy to avoid it’s atatcks, but if it does hit you, you will fall asleep. That’s bad. Otherwise take it out with thunderbolt or air-blast and it’ll go down in no time.
After you kill it, the sandship is destroyed. Talk to all the soldiers, and one of them will ask if your leaving. Say yes., and he’ll tall you how to get to Kakkara. It’s to the North. Karraka is a town, stupidly built in the middle of the desert. It’s little wonder that they’re thirsting to death. You find out that the fire seeds been stolen. So you look for it in the ice country. Before you go, buy new weapons and armor, and visit Watts. Use cannon travel, to the right, for transportation.
Chapter 13: The Fire Seed
Your in a town populated by walruses. Nothing to do in this town but save your game. Enter the forest. Here you fight wolves and pebblers. Both can get very difficult, especially when the wolves hunt in packs, but they are worth good exp. Ues cure water when you need it. In the middle of the ice forest, you see santa’s hut. He’s not in it, but rudolph says that santa’s been abducted, and taken to the Ice Palace. Guess where your going. Continue on in the ice forest. At the end, you fight a strange creatre called Boreal Face. He isn’t much. You can kill him with weapons, or just finish him off with thunderbolt. He has a lot of hp, but very little attack power. He’ll go down quickly, and you’ll find yourself in a hidden paradise. It’s very warm, even in the ice country. But how is that possible? Some guy is guarding the stove. Talk to him, and he’ll ask you to watch the stove. Open it, and you’ll meet Salamando, who has been heating up this village. He’s a little peaved, and he joins your party.
Also, the town is no longer heated, so everybody leaves. Head north. You have two paths. The left path takes you to Neko, so you can save your game. The right will take you to the ice palace.
The ice palace isn’t too tough, but there are a few tough enemies. Just beware the blue drops, as they freeze your party, and it is very annoying. When you reach the crossroads of the castle, you can get an energy orb.
Don’t try to kill the enemies in the library, they use magic, and can only be killed by magic. Save your mp, and run past them until you get to the first boss.
The first boss is actually 3 bosses, but they’re all easy. Don’t waste your mp by using magic on them, you’ll need it later, instead use ranged weapons like the whip to finish them off. They are quite easy to kill. But there is another boss in this castle, the frost gigas. His magic is strong, but so is yours, so cast spell after spell until he’s dead. He’s not that hard. You kill him, and find out you’ve been fighting Santa Clause. You injured him too badly, and he passes away, making children cry everywhere. But it’s not a total loss, you get the fire seed. Head back to Kakkara.
Chapter 14: The Fire Palace
The fire palace is down, to the left and up of Kakkara. The palace isn’t that hard, and neither are the enemies that inhabit it. First go downstairs and use exploder on the crystal switch there. Go upstairs, and use fireball on another orb. Go upstairs, then down, then upstairs again, then downstairs again until your at the stage room. Cast freeze on that orb and all torches that are lining the walls are out except one. Stand in the space between them, and you’ll be transported to face the Minotaur.
His magic is strong, and so are his physical attacks, but he doesn’t have many hp. Cast thunderbolt on him till he dies. Try to keep your distance, or he’ll knock you out. He dies, you place the fire seed on the stage, and return to Kakkara.
Chapter 15: The Empire
You return to Kakkara, but what’s this? Everybody is still thirsting to death. There is nothing you can do for them now, but remember you need a sea hares tail to save them. The cannon travel center from Kakkara will now take you to the empire. Go there.
You land in the empire’s SouthTown. Don’t bother wasting your money in the armor shop, wait till you get to NorthTown. Talk to Mara, the purple haired lady on the west side of town. She’s really a spy, and she knows who you are. She gives you the password to the sewers leading to northtown. Talk to the girl guarging the right side, give her the password, and continue onto NorthTown via the sewers.
The sewers aren’t that hard, except for the fact that your fighting monsters in close quarters. The path is easy, and you end up in a shop in Northtown. Northtown is the capital of the evil empire (rage against the machine), but there’s hope, as there is a resistance to the empire in the town, led by a girl named Krissie. She tells you there is a…situation in the town concerning the ruins to the north. This situation resembles that which happened in Pandora, and it’s all led by Thanatos, who STILL has Dyluck! Buy good (expensive) armor (such as a tiger bakini for the girl) and head for the ruins.
Chapter 16: The Northtown Ruins
Very tough area. It’s a very good idea to have good armor. The enemies here are tough, and a lot are magic based, so attacking them is useless. The best thing to do is ignore the enemies, and just run past them. Though the ruins are long, they’re not too complicated. At the end you fight doom wall. He’s easy, earth slide’ll finish him off quite well.
Thantos is pretty chapped up about what you did to his precious wall, so he sends another boss. He is not so simple. Earth slide should work, but cure often, as he will hit you with powerful spells, and more powerful attacks. By the way it’s a good idea to note that he has 2500hp. After you kill him, Thantos, Dyluck and all the monsters are gone. If you wern’t pissed off at Thanatos yet, you should be now. Go back into Northtown.
Go back to the Resistance base and talk to Krissie. She says the empire wants peace. Yeah right. But your kinda pissed at Thanatoes by now, so follow Krissie to the Palace, It’s to the north. Supposedly your going to a banquet. Suprize, suprize, you get trapped. The empire betrayed you, imagine that. Talk to the imperial soldier who is guarding your cell. He lets you out, but you have to fight a boss, a metal mantis. It has no magic, but it fires beams at you. They are not to hard to avoid, but they can do all sorts of things like engulf you, frost you, poison you etc. But he’s not hard. Use your choice of spells, he hasn’t a lot of hp.
After the battle, you have to find your way to the emperor. He’s also been put on your revenge list. The monsters aren’t hard, and they give you good gold and exp, so they’re worth fighting. Visit the right wing of the castle to get some energy orbs, then enter the main part of the building. When you can go either left or right, choose left. You’ll end up in a room with many switches on the floor. Step on the right switch which will take you to the left. Hit the switch on the wall, then step on the last switch on the floor. Activate it, and you can pass. There you’ll find the emporer, Fanha, Sheex and Geshtar (who’s on your revenge list.) well lucky you, you finally get to kill him. He asks the emporer for "one more chance" with you. Ha ha, death to him. Another mech rider, very easy to kill. Thunderbolt will make sort work of that piece of trash. But wait, he’ll try to get final revenge on you by burning the castle down. If you die here, how will Thananoes die? But wait. Listen……Truffle! He saves the day on Flammie’s back, who is now full grown. You decide then and there that Thanatoes must die. Congrats, you now have a flying white dragon. By the way……if the empire wants to kill you so much, why do they only attack you one person at a time? If they all teamed up, they could kick you a$$.
Chapter 16: The Elemental of Darkness
Now you can use flammie. He can travel all over the world very quickly, and you can ge (almost) anywhere! First of all, take Truffle back to Matango. He’ll tell you to visit Sage Josh in the lofty mountains. Guess where your going. You can land in Mandala or in front of the Palace Of Darkness. Go for the town. There is almost nothing to do in the town. You can get better armor at the item shop, but save your money. If you fight enemies until you have a heck of a lot of cash, you can get the best armor in the game (save the hidden armor), in the gold city. That’s what you should do. Kill enemies around the town until you have enough cash, head for the gold city (it’s an island), and equip your party. This should take a while, but it’s well worth it. North of the city is a temple. There is nothing in the temple. It is a useless location, and I don’t know why it exists. You can climb the mountain outside of town to visit sage Josh, but you find out he’s in the Palace Of Darkness. So you go there. It’s the cave at the base of the mountain. Enter it.
Go right. Break the spikes spikes with your axe to your right. Go down, left and up and you’ll find a switch. Activate it and go down for another switch. Now there’s no barrier blocking your path at the entrance. Don’t go there yet, go downstairs and enter a corridor. Go upstairs and use your whip across a gap and hit another switch. Use the magic rope to return back to the beginning. Go up, left, up, cut the spikes on your left with your axe and enter the room. Press all stitches there, and follow the candals which show you locations of the hidden bridges. Then you fight the boss. It’s a little tough, it uses dark magic on you, plus powerful physical attacks, plus it has a lot of hit points. But you should be able to win with fire magic. After the battle, Shade will give you his powers, which only the sprite can use. But his powers are useless, and you shouldn’t waste time by building it up. You’ve beaten the dongeon. Very good.
Chapter 17: The Tower Of light
You can go visit sage Josh again, if you want. He’s still not there, instead he’s gone to the gold city. Or you can save yourself a climb, and head there first. I hope you have already bought the good armor here. In the city itself there is nothing interesting. But try to enter the tower, and you’ll find out it’s locked. So climb to the outer wall sourrounding the ciry, go all the way around the perimeter, and talk to the guy there. He tells you the key to the tower was stolen by a Tasnican spy. Well, it turns out Mara is a Tasnican spy. So call flammie, go to the Empire’s Southtown and talk to her. She’ll give you the key, which her late husband stole. Head back and enter the tower. Easy enemies here. Kill thm for exp, until you reach the boss, the blue spike. He’s tough, mosty because of his resistance to magic. Don’t let that stop you, just keep casting gnome on him till he dies. True, it won’t deal that much damage, but that simply means that it’ll take a little bit longer to kill him. Leave the tower, save, sleep and buy Fairie Walnuts to make up for the ones you lost. Then re-enter and continue. Climb up, until your attacked by the Gotgon bull. A high level thunderbolt will finish him off. I’m sorry, but I can’t remember if there is another boss in the tower. If there is, he can’t be that hard to kill. At the top floor, you get a new spell type, Lumina, the power of light, which only the girl can use. Seal the seed, and your done here.
Chapter 18: The Power Of The Moon
Head back to Sage Josh, and find out he’s STILL not in, this time he’s gone to the Castle of The Moon. By this time, your pissed at him, and he’s almost made your revenge list. The Moon Palace is in the Kakkara Desert. You know that big, black empty space? That’s the moon palace. Land Flammie at the entrace to that big, black empty space and go up. Here you’ll meet a guy who offers to take you to the Moon Palace. Accept his offer, and enter the Moon Palace. Don’t bother trying to kill the monsters you find here, just ignore them. Just enter the palace. There’s a lot of nothing here, so don’t get lost. Just go northeast until you find a crystal switch. Lumina magic will work, teleporting you to the throne room. Talk to Luna, and you have a new set of spells. Re-seal the seed, and exit. Go back to sage Josh, etc etc, and find out he went to the castle of Tasnica. Man, how can such an old guy go so many places? Head there. Jema is waiting for you at the entrance (remember him?), and he’ll tell you that there is an imperial spy in the castle. Make your way to the king and talk to him. Wait a minute, he’s not the king at all! It’s…..a mask! He’s actually a dark stalker! Easy fight, you can kill him with a few blows from your spear, he isn’t even a boss. When you kill it, the king will appear and he’l give you an energy orb. Talk to Jema, and he tells you you should go visit Sage Josh! Damn, what the hell have you been trying to do for the last few levels? But follow his advice and visit him anyway. Surprise, surprise, the sage is in.
Chapter 19: True Courage
The Sage tells you you must undergo a test. He shows you a cave, enter it. Don’t bother fighting your enemies that you find there, they are quite hard. Just run through until you reach the boss. The boss is actually three bosses, who are all clones your yourself and your party. They can be difficult, consitiering that you can’t use magic against them. Just wack at them with your spear, and the figt will end soon enough. If you win, you’ve passed the test. If you lose……well let’s not talk about that. After the fight the Sage is gone, but it turns out he wasn’t the sage at all, Jek, the Sag’s apprentis has always been the sage. Go figure. What a loser, sending you on all those tests. What a loser. But he tells you to quickly go to the last palace, cause the empire’s doing something strange.
Chapter 20: The Rising Of Atlantis
Go to the sunken continent, more specifically, the tree palace. If you tried to here earler, you would have founf that a seal was placed on the palace, but it’s gone now. Enter the palace. You see the emporer, but sadly, he’s dead. I guess you can take him off your revenge list now. Go to the back room and find Sheex and Fanha. You find out that Sheex was the dark stalker, and he’s kinda peeved for killing him earlier. He attacks you. THis battle is god aweful hard! He casts wall on himself, first of all. Second of al, he has some really powerful spells, such as exploder. Lastly he has a hell of a lot of hp, and can do a whole buncha damage. What’s a Sprite to do? Cast dispel on him to destroy his wall, and nail him with your best spells. Each time he re-casts his wall, dispel it. Even with that, he’s still pretty damned hard. You kill it, or you should kill it. You race to the seed, but it’s too late, Thanatos has already broken the seal on the seed. Just then Dryad appears and tells you the sunken continent will surface. She joins your party, with a little persuasion. Then escape with Flammie, and watch as the continent rises. Then land on it.
Chapter 21: The Underground city
Cool music! Yeah! Anyway, your on the continent, and you need to get back into the palace. But it’s locked, and you have to take the long route to get in. Talk to Jema, then go downstairs, to the lake. Talk to the soldier guys you meet along the way, then go into the entrance into the city, on the left side of the lake. Use the axe to cut down the spikes which block your way and get the orb. Go up. There’s a lot more spikes here blocking your path, but your axe should cut them down with ease. Go up, and then left. Fall down the waterfall wich blocks your path, but hit the switch on your left side on the way down. That will stop the flow of water. Do this for all waterfalls, then go into the door to face the hydra. It can be tough, but a high level fire magic will kill it. Now you find yourself in another part of the city. Go downstairs and open the middle door. Step into the escilator and go down. Hold left as your going down, and you’ll find yourself in a hidden room with a switch. Activate it, and there will be no barrier downstairs. Now you find the resistence base where Krissie can heal you, you can save your game, and Watts is here as well. Also talk to the soldier there, who will give you the code "Red-Blue-Yellow-Green". Remember that. Go back into the hallway and go right, to the end of the corridor. You’ll find another elcilator. Look for another hidden room on the right which will de-activate another barrier. You’ll find another hallway, full of monsters. You should see four blocks on the ground. Step in between the two in the middle,a nd another barrier is removed. From another corridor you’ll find four switches four switches in the colours of Blue, Red, Yellow and Green. Hit them in thus order. Red-Blue-Yellow-Green. You are now in a room with kimono wizards. Be sure to press the switch on your way down. Go up, and the barrier is gone now! Here you’ll find a subway. If you want to live on the edge, enter the subway, and fight the gholish inhabitents inside. Or you can just run down the center isle all the way to the end. Exit the subway at the other end, and work your way around. Continue along the path, and you’ll meet up with the scorion army (remember them?) Now you have to kill their new robot, kettle kin. There is no magic that can help you, but cast dispel whenever he casts lucid barrier, and hack away until it dies. This is the end of the underground city.
Chapter 22: The Grand Palace
When you enter the palace you will see a set of stairs on either side of you. Your task is to run, from room to room, setting off crystal switches with all types of magic in the game. First go up the stairway directly North. Go up and to the left, and cast Gnome magic on the orb that lies there. Then go to the room on the right of this room, and cast Undine on that orb. Go back down the stairs and go up the left or right stairs and then the top set of stairs… Use your whip to get across the gap, go to the left and use Sylphid in this room. Exit this room and go down, work your way around to the right and go into that room and use Salamando. Go left and down. Go into the left room there and use Lumina, then go into the room on the right and use shade. Now go back up. Go up the stairway on the right and work your way around to go down the room to the left. Hit the switch with your whip on the left and go back to the room with two stairways. The barrier that was previouly blocking your path before is gone. Go through here. Go up the stairway. Now you are in a room with six torches. Go to the left and go down the stairs.. Follow the path around to the right and go up the stairs there. Now your on the last orb room. Use luna and go use the stairs on the right. Here you fight a snap dragon. He is pretty hard. He can hit, physically, for a lot of damage. By a lot, I mean A LOT, as in over 250 points! Stay out of his way. He can cast cure water on himself three times, but using magic should finish him off. If not, then throw in a few good, powered up physical attacks. Now go up the stairs on the left. You see the emporer on the stage, but he’s dead. Your more concerned with the the opening in the back of the room, where you fight ANOTHER boss, a Hexas. She can be tough. She doesn’t hit for TOO much damage, but she has a lot of hp herself, and she has a nasty habit of casting wall on herself. Also most of her attacks make you small, or moogle the affected character, and when they’re in that state, they are quite suseptable to physical damage. Dispel her wall and earth slide her to death is your best bet. When she dies, go out the back and hit the switch. Go back outside and talk to Jema. Things are not looking good. The empire has raised the mana fortress. Only a fully charged mana sword can defeat it. The only way to fully charge your sword is to go to the pure land and visit the mana tree. So, now your off to the pure land.
Chapter 23: The Mana Tree
The pure land is a white and grey area, west of the ice country. This area is, bar none, the hardest area in the game, and you’ll die many times trying to beat it. First thing, before you go, build up Sylphid, Gnome, Undine and Salamando to level 7 or 8. Trust me, you need to do this, dispite the time it takes. Also, head for Neko’s and buy four of everything. Barrels, chocolate, royal jame, even candy for last ditch healing. Finally, charge, headlong into the pure land.
You land at the pure land. The enemies here are damned near impossible. They will deal about 200 damage per hit per enemy, and they hit you a lot. There is a way to survive however. You can take the brave route, and fight back, most likely dieing in the process, or you can take the cowardly route. Barrel yourself, and remain barreled until you reach the first boss. The path is strainght forward, you won’t get lost. You reach the first boss, a snake. Kill him quickly with level 7 or 8 Sylphid magic, and prey he doesn’t kill you. Then flammie your butt out of there, re-stock your barrel supply, and use the barrels until you reach the first gate. You have to kill a dragon before you can pass this gate, so head right and face off against the frost dragon. Let’s see, frost dragon. Frost=ice. Ice=cold. What’s the opposite of cold? And what makes "hot"? Fire, and that’s the bosses weakness. While he can hit you for 400+ damage, you can hit him for 500+ per hit with level 7 fireball, and he has only about 2000 hp. You should win. Go to the gate, save your game, call flammie, get barrels, etc, and continue. The next part of the pure land has you decending into a cave. You find a bird who’s weak against ice there so ice his ass down to hell where he belongs. He only has about 2000 hp, and ice level 7 will deal about 500. Easy fight. Continue until you reach the second gate. You need to kill another dragon, a red dragon. Use ice to kill it, kinda like the last dragon. Go through the gate, and continue along the path till you reach the Thunder Gigas. He has a few more hp then the bosses before him, but he has a weakness to gnome. I won’t tell you how to kill him. Finally, finish off the path with a fight against a blue dragon. He’s weak against Gnome as well, and you should win. Pass through the gate to finish the pure land. About damned time. Now you’re overlooking the mana tree, in all it’s splendor. But wait? What’s this?!? The empire, in it’s shiny new mana fortress, shoots a beam at the tree, destroying it. In an attempt to not spoil this plot development, I’ll skip right to the point. The hero is kinda pissed at the empire, and finally decides to smash the mana fortress. Good for you.
Chapter 24: The mana fortress
You would expect the mana fortress to be damned hard, but after the pure land, it’s a cake walk. It has cool music inside, as well as a few tough foes, but nothing too hard. Just follow the only path to the end. There are three bosses in the mana fortress (ignoring the mana beast). The first is Buffy, the Vampire. No kidding, that’s it’s real name. He/she/it isn’t too hard, cast lumina (I hope you built that spell up before you entered this fortress), and gnome should kill it quickly. It can hit for a good amount of damage, but you should be able to win before it acttacks your more then once. Continue along till you get to the next boss, the Lime Slime. It has about 5000 hp, and he’s a little tougher then buffy was. He has a few spells, and you can cast wall on yourslef if your worried about them, but they’re not that bad. He get’s bigger as he takes damage. Lumina, gnome and shade all work well. Use shade if you bothered to build that spell up, I didn’t, it’s pretty useless. Kill him, and cheer, there are only two guys left. The next part of the fortress is a little harder, but don’t even bother fighting, just run past until you get to Thanatos.
Chapter 25: The Final battle(s)
Ah, Thanatos. What a tangles web we weave. It’s him and Dyluck, and Thanatos is trying to take over Dyluck’s body. The girl has an emotional breakdown at that sight (well not quite), and you are led into battle with thanatos, who’s real form is a dark lich. Now, pause the game, and just listen to the music. This is the coolest music of ANY video game. I want that midi so badly. I have a copy, but it’s a bad copy, and I’m looking for a version which is closer to the real thing. Anyway, it’s showtime. For someone who’s made yoru revenge list, he’s pretty easy. Just keep your distance, avoid his beams, and cast Lumina on him over and over till he dies. He has 6666 hp, by the way.
You’d like to think he’s the last boss. But noooooo, there has to be another one. Yes, the mana beast, designed to make your life difficult. After Thanatoes dies, Dryad magic gains a new spell, mana magic. After a short scene, you are led into battle against the mana brest, who just happenes to be Flammie. Three things to say. First of all, the music when your fighting him sucks. Second of all, he looks pretty dumb. Lastly, there is a graphical glitch during this fight. Look at your item ring. It’s kinda screwey. Anyway, to kill him. He’ll have a whole bunch of attacks, where he attacks you when you can’t attack him. Nothing you can do but take it, and cast cure water. Eventually he tires of this, and sits in front of you for a bit. Have both the Sprite and the Girl cast mana magic on the main characters sword. Now just attack. Don’t charge the weapon up, your dealing around 300 damage per hit. He’ll fly away and repeat his offensive. Just keep doing that over and over until he dies. Congradulations, Mana Knight, You have now saved the world
